A mother’s initiative to teach ‘chess’ to her 6 year old son at home some 32 years ago, has certainly resulted in emergence of this World Chess Champion Vishwanathan Anand.
The 38 year old Indian genious won against challenger Vladimir Kramnik of Russia on October 29, 2008 winning by 2 point lead (6.5 – 4.5) in 12 game match.
Anand has earlier won World Titles in 2000 in Tehran and 2007 in Mexico.
“I just did it” was the message sent by Anand to his wife Aruna Anand, as soon as he won the game.
He shares the prize money of 1.5 Million Euros with Vladimir Kramnik.
I am sure this victory of Anand will inspire many young minds to take-up chess not only in India but the world over.
